Brian Hagiwara grew up in Los Angeles, where he attended UCLA, receiving his Master’s Degree in Painting and Photography. Although Hagiwara has always continued to paint as an adjunct to his other more full-time pursuits, recently, he has begun devoting more of his time to his canvases. “Having worked in the Home Furnishings business, as well as seeing designers’ work and their personal interiors, have all been an inspiration for my painting,” he said. Hagiwara sees the possibility of his paintings serving that same group of design professionals as an interesting proposition. “I’m always thinking about design, whether it is my apartment, an item in a shop, a photograph, or a painting,” he said. “So, that I might be working with interior designers with my paintings is an idea that I find very compelling.”

Hagiwara began this line of new work with smaller scaled canvases and is gradually working his way up to larger pieces. He said, “The next step will be to explore larger and larger canvases. I’m very interested to see what that will produce.”
