Barclay Butera – California Cool
Barclay Butera, the designer best known for creating lifestyle stories based on travel destinations: Mountain, Desert, Beach City, and Country, is in his heart a Californian. His demeanor always reflects the relaxed elegance of the California coast, and his life in Los Angeles is no different.
It’s easy to be a creature of habit with a wealth of culture and the world’s best dining at your fingertips. Barclay often frequents A-list L.A. hot spots for people watching, great music, and patio dining, which is a luxury of the always-sunny climate.
His favorites include Toast Bakery Café on West Third Street for breakfast. “Easy, laid-back and comforting,” he says of the atmosphere and food. The Polo Lounge Garden at the Beverly Hills Hotel has “the best people watching in town.”
The patio at The Ivy, on Robertson Boulevard, always plays host to a bevy of celebs. Just steps from the city’s best shopping, The Ivy is Barclay’s favorite stop on Friday afternoons for vodka gimlets and crooning 20s tunes. Next stop, of course, is the Chateau Marmont Garden for evening cocktails, another great place for star sightings, a quintessential L.A. experience. Dominick’s Restaurant patio on Beverly Boulevard is “a great way to end the day,” he says.
