Outdoor Living

As winter kicks into high gear and we all adjust to the shorter days and colder weather, there’s one residence south of the border that won’t feel a thing. Just a few miles south of Puerto Escondido on the southwest coast of Mexico, Casa Descalza is reimagining luxury interiors by bringing the outdoors in.

The house has a palm-thatched roof and the bedrooms on either side of the house open into a central living room, called a palapa, which has only two exterior walls. The other two sides are open, allowing for spectacular views of the white sand beaches that stretch for miles beyond the property, as well as easy access to the ocean pool, garden and pergola complete with hammocks for ultimate relaxation.

Plush lounge chairs and oversize sofas create intimate areas throughout the airy indoor and outdoor spaces. Throw pillows in colorful patterns and textures add a touch of relaxed luxury. All of the fabrics are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and the unique artwork on the walls is resin, which makes it resistant to humidity.

The home’s six bedrooms are comfortably appointed with private bathrooms, air conditioning and ceiling fans, and all have access to the patio area and palapa, as well as views of the beach and gardens on the property. A state-of-the-art media room has ample seating and overstuffed pillows for enjoying satellite TV or a selection from the CD/ DVD library.

Though privately owned, Casa Descalza is fully staffed and available for rent certain times throughout the year. The ambiance is perfect for meditation retreats, reunions, and of course, festive parties and celebrations. For more information, including rates and availability, visit casadescalza.com.
